I have a confession…summer is my least favourite season. I’m irritable, overwhelmed and can’t get into a flow, especially when it comes to work. In the week or so leading up to summer Solstice, when there’s so much light and not enough hours of darkness for me to get my good night’s sleep, I am exhausted. Physically, mentally and emotionally wiped out and feeling meh.
However, I do welcome the Solstice itself with open arms as a means to mark the beginning of summer. I find comfort in a quiet inner knowing that the days will now slowly but surely get shorter with more balance between the light and dark as the weeks go on. Thank Goddess for that! I’m already excited that Autumn Equinox will be with us in just 13 weeks time…I really am an autumn gal at heart.
This year, I’ve decided to take this time that I find too overwhelming for my sensitive soul and create my own version of a soft woman summer. I’ve come up with a list of 20 things that I’m curious to try and thought I’d share them with you in case you could use some soft woman summer inspiration too.
My intention this season is to call in more being less doing, more pleasure less pushing, more joy less overwhelm, more creating less consuming, more play less work.
Here’s my soft woman summer list:
Going to bed at sunset to read
Plant lavender pots in my garden
Sit in my garden ‘zen den’ for morning meditation or body scan
Take a slow morning or evening wander in my local country park
Savour a cup of herbal tea, coffee or a refreshing smoothie in the garden for elevenses
Eat a homemade, nourishing lunch in the garden as much as possible without my phone
Bake a chocolate cake and slather it with fresh lightly whipped cream and summer berries
Naked sunbathing in the mornings
Play with a collage for a creative project on a cork board with printed photos and decorations
Read whatever, whenever and wherever I feel like, just because
Go to the library and then for coffee or matcha (my new found love) to savour my book choices
Light a candle and snuggle in my blanket on the sofa with a soothing playlist when the evenings get chilly
Take a picnic to the park and lie under a tree
Go for a relaxing massage
Experiment in the kitchen with seasonal ingredients
Self-pleasure whenever I feel like it
Play in my scrapbook
Read ‘Women Who Run With The Wolves’ by Clarissa Pinkola Estés and ‘Joyful’ by Ingrid Fetell Lee (both have been sitting patiently on my book shelf for some time!)
Connect with friends for slow and present conversations
Go to the farmer’s market on the weekends
I’d love to hear your soft woman summer rituals, so come and share in the comments section and let’s connect with our inner Goddess through a soft woman summer 💫
Love,
Angharad x
Love these Angharad, and love the idea of a soft woman summer! I’m going to say yes to more games with my sons (while they still want to play with me).
